Frost and high-altitude cold
Chinchero sits at about 3,750 meters above sea level. In the dry, cold months, nights below freezing leave frost on tracks and hinges and stiffen the grease on the moving parts. A gate that rolls easily during the day can be hard work for the motor in the early morning hours.
Checking that the tracks and hinges are clean and lubricated before that time of year helps the gate work just as well at any hour.
Wind: a solid leaf catches more of it
In open, windy spots, a sheet-metal gate (a solid leaf) takes much more force from the wind than an open bar gate does. You can see the effect on the hinges, the anchors and the motor, especially on swing gates.
That's why, when we quote, we ask what your gate is made of and how exposed it is. Sometimes the answer is a sturdier system, some reinforcement or a sliding gate.

Restaurants and workshops that host groups
Chinchero receives groups of visitors who arrive by van and bus, and the restaurants, workshops and centers in the area have wide entrances so vehicles can drive in and turn around. A wide gate that has to be opened and closed by hand several times a day is a waste of time and a risk.
Automating it with NICE, with a 15-year service-life warranty on swing and sliding systems, lets you open and close it without getting out of the vehicle and keep the entrance closed for the rest of the day.
Remotes, batteries and manual opening
In the cold, the batteries in remote controls don't perform as well. If your remote stops working on a freezing morning, try a new battery before you assume the motor has broken down.
Every automatic gate should be able to open by hand if the power goes out, and it should have photocells that stop it if something is in its path. These are two points we make clear before we install. The price depends on the type of gate, its size, how many days the job takes and the distance from Urubamba.
