Ollantaytambo sits at about 2,800 meters above sea level. At that altitude the air is less dense, so air-cooled units get rid of less heat and perform below what their spec sheet says. A unit sized with the altitude in mind works less hard and lasts longer.

The rains and humidity arrive from November to March, and the tourist high season runs from May to September. It's a good idea to schedule a checkup before each period; it usually includes cleaning the condenser and the evaporator, checking the drain and testing the electrical connections and the thermostat.
